Design Matters: Julie Cavanaugh brings Livable Luxury to Mountain Living

Our Featured Scout this week is Julie Cavanaugh, Founder and Principal Designer of Design Matters, an Interior Designer who understands design to be more than just the icing on the cake. Julie and her team have executed projects from mountain home design to industrial projects. She is located in Jackson Hole, WY, Los Gatos, CA, Redwood City, CA and Morgan Hill, CA.

To Julie, good design is a key ingredient in making a house a home. Design changes the way we interact with space and can completely transform the function and functionality of our living environments. With interior design that reflects personalized uses, priorities, and even values, a home is personalized on a level that extends far beyond decoration.

The job of an interior designer is often thought to be a superfluous addition to the home-building process, tacked on at the end. Julie’s practice, however, takes a hands-on approach to create a synergy between the builder, architect, and designer. After 25 years of experience, Julie knows that alignment between these three forces is not only ideal but also necessary when it comes to making a building project a success. Because the considerations of each of these players can be very different, harmony is an important part of realizing a common goal and working in the same reality.

Over the years, Julie and her team have worked hard to develop a practice that cultivates Livable Luxury. In a mountain town, livability is a key part of the luxury experience. While each project she works on is highly personalized, Julie has developed an understanding of the elemental balance that needs to be achieved to optimize livability and maximize the luxury of your home retreat.
